Today we went through the prologue of R&J, discussed the use of antithesis and oxymorons in the play, talked about the use of a greek chorus, and refreshed our memories on dramatic irony.
Lastly, we went over the expectations for reading parts.
Today we discussed the properties of sonnets, and worked on re-writing a sonnet from Shakespeare. Later this week we will begin reading Romeo and Juliet.
Today students worked on converting their outlines to rough drafts.

Today we worked on our thesis statements, including putting a first draft on a notecard for additional feedback. If students were done with their thesis statements, they were able to move on to writing their BTS.
Today we went over the requirements for the TFA paper, and students continued to work on their TFA alternate covers.
We also went over what to expect to see on the test tomorrow.
Today we discussed chapters 23-25 in class.
We talked about if Okonkwo can be considered a hero, why he killed himself, and more.
Students should spend the weekend thinking about making an alternate cover for TFA. The cover should have meaning - it should reflect a major theme of the book, and should be well-executed. Students MAY use computers to generate their covers, but must print out the final version.
Today we discussed chapters 19-22, but with a sleepy class it was difficult.
We also established the schedule for moving forward.

Today we explored the racism in some older Disney movies. After, students had a bit of time to work on their outlines and have me check their thesis statements.
Today, with half the class gone, we went over Dramatic and Situational Irony. Students wrote a a new replacement verse for "isn't it ironic" and then worked on their outlines, after a good discussion with examples of both types of irony.
