Today we discussed characterization as it relates to Pi. First, we discussed direct and indirect characterization and how they differ. Direct characterization refers to anything the author specifically tells you. Indirect characterization is everything else. Basically, if you have to infer something from the text about the person's character, it's indirect characterization.
Students then looked for examples of each type of characterization in The Life of Pi. This lesson will be continued tomorrow. There was no homework tonight.
We also quickly reviewed the cumulative assessment for Life of Pi, which will be officially handed out tomorrow, and will be due on Tuesday.
