Yesterday we had a sub. some of my best-laid plans did not work out. Today we had a work period for students to finish up two assignments - one was from before I left (the paragraph - typed, 2x spaced, printed out), the other is in their notebooks - examples of word play in A2S1.
Tomorrow we will be reading A2S1 and A2S2 in class.
Today we went through the prologue of R&J, discussed the use of antithesis and oxymorons in the play, talked about the use of a greek chorus, and refreshed our memories on dramatic irony.
Lastly, we went over the expectations for reading parts.
Today we looked at a modern sonnet, and worked on re-wording a Shakespearean sonnet.
Later this week we will begin Romeo and Juliet
Today we discussed some basic problems students are having on their papers.
Next, we went to work on the Common Assessment which required reading a story by Chinua Achebe, and writing a thesis driven paragraph about it in response to a prompt.
Today we introduced the LA/SS paper assignment. This is an integrated assignment that will go into both grade books. Students will be given both class periods for most of the workdays between now and completion of this project.
Tonight, students need to read over the assignment and come in ready to ask any questions they may have tomorrow. They also need to review the assignment with parents and bring in the signed parental notification (yellow) sheet.
Today, students were given the class period to work on their alternate covers (due tomorrow) for TFA.
No new concepts were introduced.
Today we discussed chapters 23-25 in class.
We talked about if Okonkwo can be considered a hero, why he killed himself, and more.
Students should spend the weekend thinking about making an alternate cover for TFA. The cover should have meaning - it should reflect a major theme of the book, and should be well-executed. Students MAY use computers to generate their covers, but must print out the final version. The final draft of this will be due on Tuesday, at the beginning of class.
Today we discussed chapters 19-22 in TFA and came up with a plan for getting through the remainder of the book.
Today was a lot of fun as we discussed the racism in older Disney Films.
Homework is simply to finish up that outline, and to read through chapter 22.
